Matcha terms of use

The Matcha iPhone app is licensed under Apple's Standard EULA, and Apple bills its subscriptions: a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan, then $9.99 a year, or $0.99 a week without a trial. You cancel in your Apple Account settings. These terms also cover this website and its food guides, which are compiled from published lists.

Who we are

Matcha is made by Simone Giannatiempo, an independent developer in Barcelona, Spain (“we”). These terms cover the Matcha iPhone app and this website. Contact: simonegiannatiempo1@gmail.com, or the form on the support page.

The app license

You get Matcha from the App Store. It is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the Standard EULA). The Standard EULA sets out what you may do with the app, and its warranty and liability terms apply to it. If anything on this page conflicts with the Standard EULA for the app, the Standard EULA wins.

Matcha runs on iPhone with iOS 26 or later. How it handles your data is in the privacy policy.

Subscriptions

The download is free, and after onboarding Matcha needs Matcha Pro. The plans are:

Plan Price Trial
Yearly $9.99 a year 7 days free
Weekly $0.99 a week None

Other plans may show in the app while we test prices, and prices vary by country. The app shows the price in your currency before you pay. See pricing for more.

Apple sells and bills every subscription, under Apple’s rules:

  • Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, or when the free trial ends.
  • A subscription renews automatically unless you turn it off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • If you cancel during the free trial, you aren’t charged. If you buy a plan during the trial, the rest of the trial ends.
  • Manage or cancel in your iPhone’s Settings › your name › Subscriptions, or in Matcha: Profile › Subscription › Manage subscription.
  • Refunds are Apple’s decision. Ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue refunds ourselves.

Nothing is free after the trial. Without an active subscription the app is locked. You can still export or delete your data and contact support from the … menu on the paywall. Each person needs their own subscription, including friends you invite to a shared list. Restore purchases in Profile brings back a subscription you already have.

What you share

What you log is yours. It stays on your iPhone unless you share it. When you share something (a shared list, a Send my places link or an image card), you’re responsible for it. Share only photos and notes you have the right to share, and nothing illegal, hateful or meant to harass someone.

The owner of a shared list can remove any dish or member. You can report a friend’s dish, a member, or a list someone else owns from inside the list. Anyone who has a Send my places link can open it, so think before you send one. We may delete a link that breaks these rules, or when the law requires it.

The Google Maps import

The import reads the Google Maps lists you share or paste into Matcha, on your iPhone. It depends on how Google Maps shows shared lists, so it can stop working without notice, and we may switch it off. Matcha isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Google.

The food guides

Our guides rank places by how many recognised lists, awards and guides name them, and link every source. The order comes only from those counts; places named by the same number of lists share a rank. We don’t visit or score the places for the guides. We take facts and short dish names from the sources and never copy their text. Their articles and rankings belong to their publishers.

Places close, move, and change their hours, menus and prices. Each guide shows when it was last checked, and things may have changed since. Check the place’s own website or a map before you go.

If you spot a mistake or a place that has closed, tell us on the support page.

Using this website

You’re welcome to read, quote, link to and share our pages. Please link back when you quote us. Don’t republish whole pages or guides as your own, and don’t use the support form to send spam. The text and design of this site are © 2026 Simone Giannatiempo.

Trademarks

Apple, iPhone, iCloud, Apple Maps and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc. Google Maps is a trademark of Google LLC. Facebook and Instagram are trademarks of Meta Platforms, Inc. Other names on this site belong to their owners, including the apps on our comparison pages and the restaurants, cafés, bakeries, publishers and lists in our guides. Naming them doesn’t mean they endorse Matcha or are connected to it.

No warranty

We work to keep Matcha and this website running and accurate. We still provide them “as is”, and we can’t promise they will always be available, free of errors, or that a guide’s details are current.

As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as a wasted trip to a restaurant that has closed. For the app, the warranty and liability terms of the Standard EULA apply. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the consumer law of the country you live in.

Changes

We may update these terms. When we do, the date at the top of this page changes. If you keep using the website after a change, the new terms apply to you.

Questions

How do I cancel my Matcha subscription?

On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Matcha. In the app, Profile › Subscription › Manage subscription opens the same screen. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or the current period ends to avoid the next charge.

Can I get a refund for Matcha?

Apple handles every payment, so refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue refunds ourselves.

Do friends I invite to a shared list need a subscription?

Yes. Each person needs their own Matcha subscription after the trial, including friends you invite. They get the same 7-day free trial on the yearly plan if their Apple Account hasn't used it before.
