Restore a purchase

Sign in with the Apple ID you subscribed with. Then go to Profile › Restore purchases, or tap Restore at the bottom of the paywall.

Matcha says What it means
Purchases restored Your subscription is back on.
Nothing to restore This Apple ID has no active Matcha subscription. Check that you’re signed in with the right one.
Restore didn’t work The restore didn’t finish. Check your connection and try again.

Cancel your subscription

  1. In Matcha: Profile › Subscription › Manage subscription.
  2. Or on your iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Matcha › Cancel Subscription (Apple’s steps).

Deleting the app doesn’t cancel the subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Plans and the free trial are on the pricing page.

Export your data

Go to Profile › Export data and choose where to save it. You get a folder called “Matcha export” with a dishes.json file and a photos folder. The file holds your dishes, lists, Want to try, saved places and chosen covers. Friends’ scores in shared lists are left out, because they belong to your friends.

Subscription ended? Matcha opens on the paywall. Tap ••• at the top, then Export my data.

Delete your data

Go to Profile › Delete all data and confirm. This removes your dishes, photos, lists and places from your iPhone. Shared lists you own are deleted for everyone in them, and you leave the lists you joined. It can’t be undone, so export first if you want a copy. Without a subscription, use ••• › Delete my data on the paywall.

Deleting your data doesn’t cancel your subscription. Links you sent with Send my places stay online. To have one removed, or to have your usage statistics deleted, write to us with the form below.

Google Maps import problems

In Google Maps, open the list, tap Share list and pick Matcha. Or copy the list’s link, then open Profile › Import from Google Maps in Matcha, where a “Copied a list link?” card lets you paste it. Then choose the places and add them.

Matcha says What to do
This list is private In Google Maps, set the list to Shared, then share it again.
Not a list link Share the list itself. A link to a single place won’t work.
No connection Connect to the internet and tap Try again.
Can’t read this list Google may have changed something on its side. Write to us below.
Import is off for now We’ve paused imports for a while. Try again later.

Imported places are saved places. They show as small ink pins on the map and in Rankings › Restaurant after your ranked places, and they don’t go into Want to try. Places already in Matcha are marked “Saved” and skipped. To remove a place, swipe its row or remove it from its place sheet. Importing the same list again brings back places you removed. The full walkthrough is in Google Maps list to iPhone.

Shared list invites

Open the list, tap Share, then Invite friends, and choose who to send the invite to. If you haven’t set a name yet, Matcha first asks for the name your friends will see. Invites go through iCloud, so if Matcha says “Sign in to iCloud”, sign in on your iPhone and try again.

Each invite is for the person you picked. A forwarded invite won’t let anyone else in, so send everyone their own.

The friend you invite needs Matcha on their iPhone, signed in to iCloud, and Matcha Pro or the free trial. They tap the invite, then Join.

Can’t see your friends’ scores? You see them once you’ve scored the dish yourself. If you haven’t had it, tap Not tried. To leave a list, tap the faces at the top of it, then Leave list.

Send my places

On a city, food or list page, tap Share, then Send my places. Untick anything you’d rather keep to yourself, then tap Send. Sending needs an internet connection and iCloud, so “You’re offline” or “Sign in to iCloud” tells you which one is missing.

Your friend picks the places to save, and each one lands in their Want to try with your best dish there, its score and your note. They get a copy, so nothing they do comes back to you, and later changes on your side don’t reach them.

For now, the link opens only in Matcha. If your friend taps it and nothing happens, they should install Matcha, then tap the link again. “Link not found” means the link is wrong or was removed, so ask for a new one. “Couldn’t load” usually clears with Try again.

The link carries your name, the places, your dishes, scores and notes, and a cover photo. Anyone who has the link can open it, so send it only to people you mean to.

Using Matcha offline

  • You can add a dish with no signal. The Place row reads “Later”. Back online, Matcha fills in the place when one place clearly matches the spot. If none does, the dish shows “No place yet”: open it and tap Choose place.
  • Your rankings and lists are on your iPhone, so you can browse them offline.
  • Changes in shared lists wait and sync when you reconnect.
  • An active subscription keeps working offline.
  • Importing from Google Maps, Send my places, buying or restoring a subscription and sending a support message all need a connection.

Moving to a new iPhone

Matcha doesn’t sync your journal between devices. It’s saved on your iPhone and included in your iPhone backup, so restoring a backup to the new iPhone brings it along. If Matcha then shows the paywall, tap Restore at the bottom of it.
