A matcha rating app that ranks every latte you try

Matcha is an iPhone app where you score every matcha latte from 1 to 10, with the café, the price and a note. It ranks all your matchas, overall and by city, and keeps the cafés you want to try on a map. Pizza, ramen and every other food work the same way.

Your matcha ranking

Matcha latte is one of the foods Matcha suggests when you set it up. You can also name your own, like “Iced matcha” or “Matcha soft serve”, and each one gets its own ranking.

The ranking lists every matcha you’ve scored, best first. A tie goes to the one you logged last. Tap a city to see only Kyoto or only London. When a new matcha takes first place, Matcha shows it as your new #1 and names the café it beat.

Matcha cafés on a map

Every café where you’ve scored something shows on the Map tab with the score of the best thing you had there. The filter narrows the map by food, score (8+ or 9+) and type of place, so picking Matcha latte leaves only the cafés where you’ve had one. Cafés you want to try are pink pins with a bookmark.

Finding new matcha cafés

Matcha has no public reviews and doesn’t recommend cafés. To find somewhere new, type “matcha” in the map search and tap Search “matcha” nearby. The results come from Apple Maps, and a café’s sheet can show Apple’s hours, photos and reviews. Tap Want to try, set Matcha latte as the dish to order, and the café goes on your matcha bucket list.

Places can reach that list in other ways too:

  • A friend who uses Matcha sends you their places with Send my places. Each one arrives in Want to try with the drink they had and their score.
  • You import a Google Maps list from Profile. Those come in as saved places, and you mark the ones you mean to visit.
  • Our city guides list places named by several published lists, with every source linked.

Share your best matcha

Your matcha ranking can become an image, such as “My best Matcha latte” as a top 5, a big #1 or a podium. It comes sized for a Story, a post or a square.

To pass on the cafés themselves, use Send my places. A friend with Matcha gets a copy in their Want to try, and nothing they do is shared back with you.

Every other food works the same way

The app is called Matcha, and it ranks whatever you eat and drink. Score pizza in Naples or cinnamon buns in Copenhagen, and Rankings shows them by food, city, restaurant and year. See how that works as a restaurant tracker or a food journal.
