A restaurant tracker that remembers what you ate

Matcha is an iPhone app that tracks restaurants through your dishes. Log what you ate, the place from Apple Maps and a score from 1 to 10, and Matcha ranks every restaurant by your average there, overall and city by city. Each place sits on your map with the score of the best dish you had.

How you log a restaurant

Tap + and add a dish:

  1. A photo from the camera or your library, or none.
  2. The dish. Pick one of your foods or type a new one.
  3. The place, from Apple Maps. Offline, save the dish anyway. Once you’re back online, Matcha finds the place from where you were, or shows Choose place so you can pick it.
  4. The score, 1 to 10 in half steps.

Price, currency, a note, lists and the date are optional. For a past visit, change the date. Or pick up to 10 photos from that trip at once: Matcha reads the date from each photo and suggests the place from where it was taken.

A restaurant joins your rankings once you’ve scored one dish there. Score two dishes and the place’s number is their average.

Where your restaurants show up

Where What it shows
Rankings › Restaurant Every place you’ve scored, ranked by your average, with how many dishes you had. Saved and Want to try places follow, without a rank.
A restaurant’s page Every dish you had there, best first, your average, and buttons to open the place in Apple Maps or Google Maps
A city’s page That city’s dishes or its restaurants, ranked
Rankings › Food Every pizza (or ramen, or croissant) you’ve had, so you can see which place does it best
Map Every place you’ve scored, with its best dish’s score, next to your Want to try and saved places
Rankings › Year Every dish of one year, ranked or by month

Filters

The filter on Rankings › Restaurant narrows the list by city, by state (rated, Want to try or saved), by type (restaurant, café, bakery or bar) and by imported Google Maps list. The map’s filter adds food and score (8+ or 9+), so you can pull up every place where a dish earned 9 or more.

Places you haven’t been to yet

The same app keeps the places you mean to try. Save one to Want to try and it stays a pink pin until you go. Your Google Maps lists come in from Profile (how it works) and land as saved places, apart from the ones you’ve ranked.

Sharing

A city’s top 5 can become an image for a Story, a post or a square. Send my places sends the places themselves as a link, and a friend with Matcha gets a copy in Want to try. Shared lists work with friends through iCloud: everyone scores the dishes, and you see their scores only after you’ve given yours.

Your data stays yours

Your journal stays on your iPhone, and you don’t create an account. Profile › Export data saves your dishes, lists, Want to try and saved places as a file, with your photos in a folder. Export also works from the paywall after a subscription ends.

Questions

Is there an app to track restaurants I've been to?

Matcha for iPhone does it through dishes. Log what you ate with a score, and each restaurant is ranked by your average there, with every place on a map.

Can I track a restaurant without rating it?

You can save it to Want to try or import it from Google Maps. It then shows on the map and after the ranked places, and gets a rank once you score a dish there.

Do I have to compare restaurants against each other?

No. You give each dish a score from 1 to 10, and Matcha works out the order.

Can I add restaurants from past trips?

Yes. Set the date on any dish, or pick up to 10 photos at once and Matcha takes the date from each photo and suggests the place from where it was taken.

Is there an Android or web version?

No. Matcha is iPhone only and needs iOS 26 or later.

How much does Matcha cost?

The download is free. Matcha Pro starts with a 7-day free trial, then costs $9.99 a year, or $0.99 a week without a trial. Prices vary by country, and nothing is free after the trial.
