What Beli does well
Beli is a social app for ranking the restaurants you’ve been to. When you add a place, it asks you to compare it with places you’ve already ranked, then turns your answers into a score (TASTE, June 2025). Each restaurant also shows a Rec Score, Beli’s guess at how much you’ll like it, and a Friend Score based on what your friends thought of it (Washington Square News, 2023).
Friends are the point. A feed shows where they’ve eaten, and a Match Score tells you whose taste is closest to yours (App Store). Beli also ranks you against other users by how many restaurants you’ve logged (TODAY, July 2025). You get ranked lists and maps of the places you’ve been and want to try, and you can add notes and favorite dishes to a place.
- Platforms: iPhone, iPad and Android.
- Price: free download. In-app purchases include Beli Supper Club ($74.99/year) and creator subscriptions.
- Community: about 17,400 ratings, averaging 4.8, on the US App Store, and 100K+ downloads on Google Play.
- Language: English.
If you want your friends’ rankings and restaurant tips, Beli is the app built around that.
Reasons to look elsewhere
Beli gives the restaurant one score. You might want something else if:
- you remember the dish more than the restaurant (the carbonara in Rome, the ramen in Tokyo)
- you’d rather keep your list to yourself and share it when you choose
- you want the app in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese or Korean
- your places already sit in Google Maps lists

Matcha: score the dish, see your best ranked
Matcha is an iPhone app for foodies: score the dishes you eat, see your best pizza, ramen or matcha latte ranked, and keep every place on a map with a Want to try list.
You give each dish a score from 1 to 10 in half steps, with a photo, the price and a note if you want them. Matcha ranks everything by food, city, restaurant and year, so your best pizza is the best one you’ve had in any city. On the map, each restaurant shows its best dish’s score.
Want to try is your food bucket list: places a friend swears by, with the dish to order if you know it. To bring places over from Google, share or paste a Google Maps list link in Profile, and they land on your map (how it works).
With friends, you can keep a shared list through iCloud. Everyone scores the same dishes, and you only see a friend’s score after you’ve scored the dish yourself. “Send my places” sends a link instead: your friend gets a copy in their Want to try, and nothing comes back to you.
Beli is ahead on Android, on recommendations from a large community, and on price. Matcha is iPhone only (iOS 26 or later) and paid: free download, 7-day free trial, then $9.99/year, or $0.99/week without a trial. Prices vary by country, and nothing is free after the trial (pricing). Matcha has no account or feed, and your journal stays on your iPhone.
Other alternatives
Mapstr
An app for saving places on a map, on iPhone, Android, Apple Watch and the web (adding places on the web needs Mapstr Plus). Maps are public by default and can be made private, and you can follow friends’ maps and maps from magazines, guides and creators. You can give a place you’ve tried 1 to 5 stars. Mapstr is free up to 300 places; Mapstr Plus removes the limit and has a 7-day free trial. It imports Google Maps lists, Google Takeout files and Foursquare. Full comparison: Mapstr vs Matcha.
Google Maps lists
Free on Android, iPhone and computers. A list can be private or shared, friends can edit a shared list, and each list holds up to 3,000 places. You can add a note to each place. Lists have no scores or rankings, and the star ratings you post as reviews are public. Full comparison: Matcha vs Google Maps lists.
Crumble
A web app that runs in any browser and can sit on your home screen; native apps are on its roadmap. You rate each dish to a tenth of a star and keep a wishlist, and your reviews stay inside your friends list. It’s free, with an optional Crumble Plus tier, and has no Google Maps import yet (crumble.me).
Savor
The closest to Matcha in this list: dish first and private by default, with each dish scored from 1 to 10, decimals allowed. It’s on iPhone and Android, and its AI identifies the dish from your photo. Free, with Savor Pro at $4.99/month or $49.99/year on the US App Store. English only (savortheapp.com).
Palytt
Palytt helps you choose what to order. Its Order Guide gives a restaurant’s dishes a 0 to 100 match score for your taste, and you mark the dishes you’ve had as “I’d order again” or “Skip next time”. Friends can plan a dinner together and vote on where to go. It’s free on iPhone, iPad and the web, with Android “coming soon”. It takes Google Maps, Apple Maps and Instagram links, Google Maps saved-list exports and CSV files (palytt.com).
