The short answer

Savor is close to Matcha: both score each dish from 1 to 10 and keep ratings private by default.

Savor calls itself a dish-first food diary: snap a plate, score it, and find your personal best by city, cuisine or time. It runs on iPhone and Android, and its AI names the dish from your photo. Matcha is an iPhone app built around rankings and a map, with Google Maps imports and lists you share with friends.

Pick Savor if you’re on Android, your iPhone is older, or you’d like to log for free. Pick Matcha if you want every food ranked and a Want to try map.

How they rate

Savor uses a slider from 1 to 10 in steps of 0.1, so one pasta can get a 7.5 and the next an 8.2. Its AI identifies the dish and ingredients from your photo, and you add tags such as Italian or tacos. Smart Lists like Top Burgers or Best in [City] fill in as you add reviews.

Matcha scores in half steps from 1 to 10, with an optional photo, price and note. That’s 19 possible scores, since few of us remember a meal well enough to split an 8.3 from an 8.4 (how to rate food). If you want finer scores, Savor has them. Every food gets its own ranking in Matcha, and you can also rank by city, restaurant and year. There’s no AI.

Lists, maps and friends

Savor has a map of every dish you’ve logged, your own collections, and stats like your level, streak and the countries you’ve eaten in. You can share lists as images or QR cards. Its store listings don’t describe a list of places you want to try.

On Matcha’s map, each restaurant’s pin shows its best dish’s score, and Want to try places are pink, with the dish to order if you know it. Share cards show your top 5, a big #1 or a podium, sized for a Story, a post or a square. A Send my places link copies your places into a friend’s Want to try (they need Matcha). In a list shared through iCloud you see a friend’s score only after you’ve scored the dish. Year in food updates with every dish. There’s no account, feed or followers.

Price and platforms

Savor is free to download. On the US App Store, Savor Pro costs $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year. It runs on Android and on iPhones with iOS 15.1 or later. Its App Store listing names only English.

Matcha is a free download with a 7-day free trial, then $9.99/year, or $0.99/week without a trial. Other plans may show in the app, and nothing is free after the trial. It’s iPhone only (iOS 26 or later), comes in 9 languages, and is in App Store review now. More on pricing.

Moving from Savor to Matcha

Matcha has no Savor import. It imports shared Google Maps lists, up to 3,000 places per list. If your Savor restaurants are also saved in a Google Maps list, share that list to Matcha and they land on your map. Then score your favorite dishes as you go back. Steps: Google Maps list to iPhone. Other dish-rating apps: Matcha alternatives.
