The short answer
Corner is a social map for finding and saving places: restaurants, cafés, cocktail bars, vintage shops. You follow friends, see their spots on your map, and get recommendations that Corner tunes from your saves and reviews. It’s free on iPhone and Android, and its website says it has 125K users across 425 cities.
Matcha is a private food journal for iPhone. You score each dish you eat, and the app ranks your best pizza, ramen or matcha latte across every city. Corner helps you discover places through friends; Matcha remembers what you ate and how good it was.
How they rate
Corner rates places. Its App Store screenshots show friends’ spots marked “liked” or “okay”, a thumbs-down badge, and short written reviews that others react to with emoji: “reviews from real people, no bots or ads”. Nothing in its listing scores a dish or ranks your own food.
In Matcha you give each dish a score from 1 to 10 in half steps, with a photo, the price and a note if you want them. Every food gets its own ranking, plus rankings by city, restaurant and year. On the map, each restaurant shows its best dish’s score.
Lists, maps and friends
Corner is built around other people. Profiles show followers, a “corner rank” and a weekly streak, next to your want-to-try places and favorites. The map can show what friends saved or liked, and you can search in plain words, like “spots to cowork from”. Share a TikTok or Instagram link to Corner and it becomes a pin; a screenshot headed “import places directly from anywhere” also shows Google Maps, Apple Maps and Notes. Corner publishes city guides on its website too.
Matcha has no account, feed or followers, so you share on purpose: an image of your top 5, your #1 or your year in food, or “Send my places”, a link that copies your places into a friend’s Want to try (they need Matcha). In a shared list through iCloud, you see a friend’s score only after you’ve scored the dish yourself (rate restaurants with friends). Matcha doesn’t read TikTok or Instagram links: you search the place and tap Want to try.
Price and platforms
Corner is free on iPhone (iOS 17 or later) and Android. Neither store listing shows in-app purchases, and its website promises zero ads. The iPhone app is in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, and it averages 4.5 from 850 ratings on the US App Store. Its Google Play listing showed 0+ downloads on 16 October 2026.
Matcha is iPhone only (iOS 26 or later), in 9 languages, with no ads and no AI. It’s a free download with a 7-day free trial, then $9.99/year, or $0.99/week without a trial. Other plans may show in the app, and nothing is free after the trial (pricing). Corner wins on price and on Android.
Moving from Corner to Matcha
Matcha has no Corner import. It brings places in only from shared Google Maps lists, up to 3,000 places per list. If your Corner places are also in a Google Maps list, share that list to Matcha on your iPhone, choose the places, and they land on your map (step by step).
You can also keep both: Corner to find somewhere new, Matcha to score what you ate there.
