Facts about Palytt are as of October 2026, from the pages under Sources.
The short answer
Both apps care more about the dish than the restaurant. Palytt is a free, social app for the moment you open a menu: it suggests what to order and helps a group pick a place. Matcha is a private iPhone journal that shows your best pizza or matcha latte across every city.
For free, social help at the table, Palytt fits better. For your own detailed scores and rankings, pick Matcha.
How they rate
In Palytt you mark each dish “I’d order again” or “Skip next time”. When Palytt knows enough about your taste, its Order Guide gives a restaurant’s dishes a personal match score from 0 to 100, which Palytt says describes taste fit, not a measured chance you’ll enjoy it (how taste matching works). It can also scan a menu, or a receipt to log what you ordered.
In Matcha you score each dish from 1 to 10 in half steps. Every food gets its own ranking, so your best cacio e pepe can come from any city. There are rankings by city, restaurant and year too. Matcha uses no AI. Palytt’s optional cloud AI features ask for your consent first. More: how to rate food.
Lists, maps and friends
Palytt is built around people. You follow friends and people who eat like you, and a food feed shows friends’ posts along with public community posts. In Rooms, a group proposes dates, compares places and votes, and invited friends can vote in a browser without the app. Palytt’s privacy policy says your profile, posts and ratings can be seen by others, depending on your settings.
Matcha has no account, no feed and no followers. Your Want to try list sits on the map, and friends come in when you choose. In a shared list through iCloud, you see a friend’s score only after you’ve scored the dish yourself. A share card puts your top 5 or your #1 in a Story, a post or a square. A “Send my places” link copies your places into a friend’s Want to try (they need Matcha). More: rate restaurants with friends.
Price and platforms
As of October 2026, Palytt is free on the App Store with no in-app purchases listed. It runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later, has a web app, and Android is “coming soon” (get the app). It’s in 10 languages.
Matcha is iPhone only, on iOS 26 or later, in 9 languages. It’s a free download with a 7-day free trial, then $9.99/year, or $0.99/week without a trial. Other plans may show in the app, and nothing is free after the trial (pricing). On price and devices, Palytt is ahead.
Moving from Palytt to Matcha
There’s no import from Palytt. Matcha brings in places only from Google Maps: share a Google Maps list to Matcha or paste its link in Profile, choose the places, and they land on your map, up to 3,000 per list (how it works). Places you saved in Palytt can come over if they’re also in a Google Maps list. Your Palytt verdicts stay behind, so you’d score those dishes again.
Palytt is more open on the way in: it takes Google Maps, Apple Maps and Instagram links, Google Maps saved-list exports and CSV files.
