Facts about Beli are as of October 2026, from its App Store and Google Play listings, its privacy policy and the press linked under Sources.
The short answer
Beli is one of the best-known restaurant ranking apps, and it’s built around friends: you rank the places you’ve eaten at, see where your friends have been and get recommendations. Matcha is a private iPhone journal for the food itself. You score each dish, and over time it shows your best pizza, ramen or matcha latte across every city.
If your friends are on Beli, Beli is the better fit. If you remember the carbonara more than the restaurant, pick Matcha.
How they rate
In Beli you pick “I liked it”, “It was fine” or “I didn’t like it”, then compare the new place with restaurants you’ve already ranked. Beli turns your answers into a score out of 10 (Boston Globe, 2026). Choosing between two places can be easier than picking a number. Bars, bakeries, coffee shops and ice cream shops get their own lists (Harvard Crimson, 2026). You can note your favorite dishes, but they don’t get a score.
Matcha asks for a number instead: each dish gets a score from 1 to 10 in half steps, with a photo, price and note if you like. Every food gets its own ranking, plus rankings by city, restaurant and year (how to rate food).
Lists, maps and friends
Beli keeps ranked lists and maps of where you’ve been and want to try. A newsfeed shows the spots friends have tried, and a Match Score shows which friends share your taste (App Store). Each restaurant also shows a friend rating, the average of your friends’ scores (Stanford Daily, 2026). Leaderboards rank users by how many places they’ve ranked (TASTE, 2025). You need an account, and Beli’s privacy policy says parts of your profile and the content you add can be seen by other users and the public.
Matcha doesn’t have an account, a feed or followers. Your Want to try list sits on the map next to the places you’ve rated. In a shared list through iCloud, you see a friend’s score only after you’ve scored the dish. Share cards post your top 5, your #1 or a podium, and “Send my places” puts your places in a friend’s Want to try (they need Matcha). More: rate restaurants with friends.
Price and platforms
As of October 2026, Beli is free on iPhone, iPad (iOS 16.6 or later) and Android, with optional extras such as Beli Supper Club ($74.99/year). It’s in English, has about 17,400 ratings averaging 4.8 on the US App Store, where it carries an Editors’ Choice badge, and shows 100K+ downloads on Google Play.
Matcha is iPhone only (iOS 26 or later): free download, 7-day free trial, then $9.99/year, or $0.99/week without a trial. Other plans may show in the app, and nothing is free after the trial (pricing). It’s in 9 languages and has no ads.
On price, on Android and on the size of its community, Beli is ahead.
Moving from Beli to Matcha
There’s no Beli import. Matcha’s only import is for Google Maps lists: share a list to Matcha or paste its link in Profile, choose the places, and they land on your map, up to 3,000 from one list (how it works). If your Beli places are also in a Google Maps list, they can come over that way. Your Beli scores stay behind. You can also keep both: Beli for friends’ tips, Matcha for what you ate. More options: Beli alternatives.
