What the lists agree on
Boulangerie Utopie is named by 4 of 9 lists: the 2024 Grand Prix, which it won, plus The Infatuation, Time Out Paris and Gault&Millau. It is the only ranked bakery named by both the Grand Prix and the media bakery lists.
Most of the ranking comes from the City of Paris Grand Prix. Its four years name 7 of the 8 ranked bakeries, and five of them are ranked on Grand Prix years alone. That includes the joint-second pair, Boulangerie Guyot Ferreira and La Parisienne (the 2025 winner). Graine is on the 2025 Grand Prix list and the 2023 Très Très Bon list. Petite Île is the only ranked bakery missing from the four Grand Prix years. Le Fooding and Time Out Paris name it.
The media lists cover bakeries in general, so a bakery counts for them only when its entry names the baguette.
The 20th arrondissement has two ranked bakeries, Graine and Le Délice de Bagnolet. The other six are in six different arrondissements. Utopie is also joint second in our croissant guide.
The baguette in Paris
The Grand Prix judges the baguette de tradition française. A 1993 decree limits its ingredients to flour, water, salt and yeast or leaven, and bans additives. For the 2026 edition, 143 baguettes were entered. A jury of trade federation members, journalists and Parisians drawn by lot judged them on appearance, taste, bake, crumb and the holes in the crumb, and checked their size and salt. In 2022 UNESCO added the craft and culture of the baguette to its list of intangible cultural heritage.
To order the baguette the Grand Prix judges, ask for “une tradition”.
